STUDENT HANDBOOK
Grievance Procedures
University Faculty, Staff or other Students
The staff of Student Accessibility Services encourages students to
contact them directly to help with conflicts that might arise in classroom
or other University settings. Generally, the student will be asked to
play an active role in resolving the conflict while working with the
S.D.S. staff member. In some cases, the staff member might encourage
the student to file a complaint with the Office of Affirmative Action
(see below).
Other avenues that are available for a student in a conflict situation include contacting the University Ombudsman (located in the Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Vice Presidential Suite in Room 250 of the Kent Student Center, phone number 672-9494), or through the Office of Affirmative Action (see below).
Student Accessibility Services Decisions
A student has the right to appeal an eligibility or accommodation determination
made by a staff member of the Office of Student Accessibility Services.
To do so, the student may first contact the Director of Student Accessibility
Services in writing detailing the complaint. The Director will likely
want to meet with the student to discuss the issue before making a determination.
All determinations will be made in writing.
A student may choose to by-pass the Director if he/she chooses, or appeal a
decision made by the Director, by contacting the Office of Affirmative
Action directly to file a formal or informal complaint. More information
about their procedures is available by calling 672-2038 or by making
an appointment at the Office of Affirmative Action located on the first
floor of Wright Hall.
